Authenticity, guaranteed

Every pre-owned pen goes through the same four checks before it’s listed. If a pen we sold you is ever shown not to be genuine, we refund you in full.

i.Provenance
We record where each pen came from and check the serial number and any papers.
ii.Inspection
Hallmarks, nib engraving, resin, clip and plating are examined under magnification.
iii.Service
The pen is flushed, cleaned and polished. Pistons and seals are checked and lubricated.
iv.Writing test
We ink and write with every fountain pen and photograph it exactly as you’ll receive it.

How we grade

Pre-owned pens carry one of five grades covering the body, the nib and the filling system.

Mint

Unused or inked once. Usually with original box and papers.

Near Mint

Lightly used. No marks visible at arm’s length. Writes like new.

Excellent

Fine micro-scratches from normal use. Smooth, fully working nib.

Very Good

Visible wear or light plating loss. Writes reliably.

Good

Honest wear, fully functional. The lowest price for the model.

Are your pens genuine?

Yes. Every pen is inspected and authenticated before it’s listed, and we guarantee it. If a pen we sold you is ever shown not to be genuine, we refund the full price.

Why are your prices lower than retail?

We buy pre-owned pens from collectors and estates, and source new pens through secondary channels. We keep our costs and margins low so you pay less than you would at a boutique.

Do pens come with a warranty?

Pre-owned pens come with our own 12-month Pen Depot guarantee covering the nib and filling system. Manufacturer warranties apply only where the original papers transfer.

How is shipping handled?

Orders ship insured and tracked with signature on delivery. Shipping is free across Canada on orders over $250.
